Caring For the Busy Mom's Heart

I believe we need a self care revolution. My goal as a holistic health coach to busy moms is to make self care as normal as brushing our teeth and that morning cup of coffee (or green tea, whatever the case may be).

In my ideal world, you might plan dinner, plan your errands and then plan your next epsom salt bath and download a new guided meditation. I want us to prioritize our self care as much as we prioritize the care of everyone and everything else.

Self care is vital to good health.

You can eat a kale salad everyday but unless you care for yourself on a deeper level you will only be able to take your health and wellness so far. That is why every mom that works with me knows that we are not just going to talk about meal plans and superfoods. We are going to talk about caring for ourselves, mind, body and soul, as well in order to achieve true wellness.

Implied in that equation is caring for the busy mom's heart. It seems pretty timely to focus on the busy mom's heart as we get ready to celebrate Valentine's Day. This is not a task that should be assigned to a sweetheart or significant other. Caring for our heart is on us. It is something we must prioritize as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Caring for the busy mom hearts doesn't have to be complicated either.

The key to a healthy heart is a healthy diet.

The key to a happy heart is gratitude.

You need both.

Today we are focused on the latter.

I am going to share my 3 favorite ways to live with more gratitude in order to care for your busy mom heart:

  1. Guided meditation that focus on gratitude- Lately I have been practicing guided meditation during the day when I have some time to myself or first thing in the morning. I have noticed a huge difference in my mood, demeanor and happiness. There are many guided meditations that you can find on the internet, but here are two I love. Try these or find something that works best for you.
  2. Gratitude Journal- This is a perfect way to end the day. Taking even just 5 minutes to jot down the people and things you can be grateful for each day is a simple way to practice gratitude. Personally, it reminds me just how lucky I really am. Every mom that tries this practice notices the positive effect it has on the heart. It is simple and effective.
  3. Say "THANK YOU" and say it often- In fact, over-say it. Show it, too. This weekend I named 3 people who helped me in some way last week and then I sat down and wrote them thank you notes. I had already thanked them and hugged them at the time of the favor/gesture. But I wanted to go a little further. I know that my extra effort will be appreciated but more than that, I have to tell you, writing those thank you notes made me feel really good, too. It felt great to pause and show true gratitude for the friends in my life that I can truly count on. Who can you share some extra gratitude with?

These are three simple ways that the busiest mom can care for her heart even when time is hard to spare. Choose one of these suggestions or even something else that works for you and see the change it brings to your life.
