Here is the Pep Talk You Were Hoping For (and not a moment too soon!)

Alright, Mommas, the honeymoon is over.

You know what I am talking about.

Right about now that enthusiasm we had a few short weeks ago starts waning off.

All the New Year’s excitement and energy for recommitting to health goals starts to settle down and suddenly staying the course gets just a little tougher.

If you are nodding your head, you are not alone.

The new year always starts off with a buzz in the air, a bit of a thrill surrounding all of that fresh potential that the beginning of the year promises. We can’t help but get caught up in it.

And that is a good thing.

Nothing wrong with feeding into the motivation to eat a little better, exercise a little more, and take care of ourselves more frequently.

Then the buzz settles down.

The ups and downs of life threaten the rhythm we are trying to hard to maintain.

Before we know it, we are just slightly discouraged and feeling the weight of an uphill battle.

So here I am, just in time to get your head right back in the game. (As Cher might say, “Snap out of it!”)

Look, you didn’t set those goals and intentions for no good reason. You want to come out on the other side of this journey with a smile on your face and living your BEST LIFE! Right?

You set those goals because there is a way you want to FEEL.















Whatever feelings you were going for, you have to travel the road it takes to get there. THAT is why you set those goals. I just can’t let you forget that.

You can do this.

I promise.

You have what it takes.

Sometimes we just need a reminder and a little push.

And if a little more push is what you need, maybe one or two of these ideas will give you an extra motivation boost:

  • Build your healthy community. Spend time with those peeps in your life that get it. It makes a huge difference!

  • Watch one of the many inspiring documentaries about health and wellness. Netflix has about a half a million or so. (This always works for me!)

  • Try something new! Maybe it is a new exercise class, shopping at a new healthy market, or anything healthy you have been meaning to do, but just haven’t…..yet! If not now then when?

  • Celebrate the successes you’ve had! Big or small, they are all worth at least a victory dance!

  • Plan, plan, plan. You can’t move forward (at least not long term) without a plan. So carve out time to plan meals, workouts, meditations, journaling, and all the things you need to feel healthy and happy.

Never feel like you are alone in this.

The Healthy Mom's Guide to Being Summer Ready


Summer is one of my favorite times of the year. 

  • More time with the kids.
  • Longer days
  • Being outdoors like ALL the time.
  • BBQs
  • Summer fruits
  • Beach time
  • Hiking
  • Gardening

Where does it end? There is just so much to love about summer. 

Like the beginning of all of the seasons, this is a natural time for me to rethink and refocus, sort of making a plan in my head of how to approach the next few months. Often I set new goals and intentions. I rethink meal prep since I rely less on my crockpot and more on tossing things on the grill. And there is more. 

No doubt you are thinking about some of the same things. 

Because I am all about making HEALTHY so much EASIER for the busy mom, I thought putting a few ideas and strategies in one place would be useful for us all.

So, here are somethings you might be thinking about as summer approaches and some ideas and strategies for making them work for you. (With a healthy twist, of course!) 



One thing I adore about summer is how EASY it is to eat healthy! In the colder months I rely heavily on my crockpot and do a lot of meal prep on Sundays. In the summer I still do my planning and meal prep on Sundays but it consists of a lot more make-ahead salads that we can eat all week after we toss something on the grill as well as the planning of what is going on the grill and when. (So much simpler.) 

I love these ideas for salads you can make on Sunday but eat all week. 

These idea pair so nicely with a piece of fish that you can broil up quickly or some chicken tossed on the grill. It all keeps healthy meals SIMPLE.

Another healthy and easy salad idea is having "Salad Bar Sundays" (or Saturdays.... or Mondays. It really doesn't matter!) where you can just lay out all of the ingredients and, if your kiddos are old enough, everyone can make their own salads for lunch or dinner. We usually have a few rules like "You must have one of every color + a spoonful of whatever protein", but basically everyone is in control of their own plate. And you can make up whatever rules work for you. 

Oh! Here is one more idea I have to share! With the warmer weather I love having breakfast picnics are a fun idea as well. It is an easy way to give your kids lots of healthy choices and enjoy the fresh air early! Take a look at how we put together a simple outdoor breakfast picnic, this is just my favorites.

Here is another part of my life I think just gets easier in the summer. The warmer weather means the family and I are outside so much more. And there are TONS of ways to stay fit and active. We take walks and hikes, play catch or tag, ride our bikes to the playground and more!

The ideas are endless.

In fact, here are 15 more ways you and the family can stay active this summer. 

And truthfully, with many of us on a more relaxed schedule throughout the summer, this is a great time to find yourself an accountability partner. Your girlfriend/neighbor/bff is more likely to say YES to an evening run, Saturday morning tennis, or weeknight laps at the high school track. All you have to do it ASK! 



Setting intentions around our children is usually something that happens right about now as well, Whether those intentions are about maintaining academic accomplishments from the last school year or maintaining some healthy habits throughout the next few months, there is usually something we are thinking about moving forward. 

For academics, there are a few things on my personal plate, one of which is maintaining my children's reading stamina. So they will all get reading logs and reading first thing in the morning will remain a part of our morning routines.

5 Quick & Healthy Dinners for Your Busy Week

Just like any other busy mom, my weekdays and nights are jam packed.

Work, physical therapy, PTA, household chores, after-school activities, gym, errands.... and don't even get me started if a child (or two or three) should fall ill.

But still, busy or not, I try like hell to prioritize having a healthy dinner on the table for the family and myself. 

I know this is a priority for you too. 

I also know that when our schedules are a little extra crazy we start thinking that the only way to survive is by ordering takeout or some similar option that temporarily bumps us off of our healthy track. 

It has happened to me too.

It doesn't have to be that way and that is why I am sharing 5 quick & healthy dinner recipes for when the schedules are overflowing and time is short. 

Each of these recipes is easy, healthy, and can be prepared in 10-, 20-, or 30-minutes. 

You'll pat yourself on the back after one of these dinners, I promise. 


Fish in Parchment Paper

Fish and veggies. You can't get much healthier than that. So simple and delicious, this is an easy way to stay on track during a busy week. This is really easy to put together and absolutely delicious.

10-Minute Sausage and Veggie Skillet

The really nice thing about this recipe is that there isn't even much chopping or prep work. I can have everything ready and into the skillet in just a few minutes. All in all, everyone is well fed in under a half hour. 

10-Minute Asian Zucchini Noodles

So here is the thing with this recipe, if you are really pressed for time, you can BUY pre-spiralized zucchini in almost every supermarket these days. You can shave off some extra time that way if you need to. Have some leftover chicken or other meat? Add it in! This is almost too easy to believe! 

Chicken "Rice" Bowl

Again, if you are pressed for time, many supermarkets have pre-riced cauliflower in the produce aisle which will make this recipe even faster and easier for you. This recipe is overloaded with veggies making it extra nutritious. Plus it has tons of flavor so everyone is happy! 

No-Cook Avocado Tuna Wraps

No cooking? How much easier can life get? Skip the bread and the store-bought mayo for this healthy meal that is easy to take on the go. Make this once and I bet it will become a staple in your house.
