It doesn't matter if I am in a full class of 25 people or alone in my living room, there is something amazing about finding myself on my yoga mat. Because I have been blessed with some amazing yoga teachers, I have learned that when I am on my mat, nothing else matters: not what is happening on other mats, not my "To Do" list, not the day-to-day stresses, nothing.
All that matters in that moment in time is me and my practice.
My yoga practice is an area in my life where I have recently set some new goals. If I can be totally honest with you, I absolutely love yoga but don't have enough of it in my life. Doesn't make much sense, does it?
Well, we are all a beautiful work in progress and that is why this is an area in my life where I have decided to make some improvements.... but I will get to that.
You might already know that there are different types of yoga. I have tried many and love each that I have tried in a different way. For me, there are many things that happen during practice:
- My busy mind suddenly quiets down.
- I remember to breathe.
- I appreciate my body for what it can achieve on the mat.
- I notice myself becoming more and more flexible (this coming from the most inflexible chick in the world.)
- I feel myself getting stronger.
- I feel centered, calm and clear headed.
- By the end, I feel refreshed and ready to get back to the rest of life.
These are things that happen and I notice every single time I practice. Who wouldn't want more of all that in their life, right?
One of the big positives about yoga is that it is not only good for the body but the mind and soul as well. If you are a busy mom who values effective multi-tasking, yoga can take on many aspects of self care at once. (Again, who doesn't want more of that in their life?)
There are many self care practices that I have cleared a path for in my life. Many that I include are short and sweet: a glass of lemon water to start the day, a few minutes of journaling, dry brushing, deep breathing/meditation... all practices that I can fit in because they only require a few, easily spared minutes. When life gets busy though, I have found that in the past my yoga practice is what suffers. For whatever reason I always seem to think I need to dedicate huge chunks of time to yoga. I mean, sure that is IDEAL....
...But that is just not necessary.
Of course my preference is to have dedicated time to go to my favorite yoga space and practice with some of the best teachers around. And I make time for that as often as I possibly can. I know how beneficial the guidance and experience of my teachers are to proper practice, improvement and inspiration.
But once I started to accept the idea that not having a full hour to dedicate didn't mean all was lost, my practice actually IMPROVED.
Even if I only had a few short minutes at home, I can still experience all the things yoga brings to my life by using those few minutes in a smart, healthy and self caring way.
By learning to be flexible (pun intended) I have learned to fit yoga in where ever I can. Sometimes I have time in the morning, sometimes I have a few extra minutes at night, sometimes I clear a few minutes for yoga at 2:15 in the afternoon.
Nighttime yoga is becoming something I look forward to more and more. And that might have been part of the reason why I asked my dear friend Kaitlyn Rodriguez of Breathe Yoga Studio to be a part of The Real Moms' Inner Circle, my exclusive membership site, this month.
We created a video for all the member moms so Kaitlyn could guide us through some beautiful nigthtime yoga. By committing to this short and easy practice, I personally have noticed:
- I feel relaxed and calm.
- My mind slows down.
- I decrease my tech time at night.
- I SLEEP SO MUCH BETTER.
- Better sleep means better mornings!
(win, win, win, win, and another win.)
And this guided video is under 5 minutes! Imagine getting all of these benefits in such a short time!
Right now, the only way to see this awesome video and so many others is by subscribing to the exclusive Real Moms' Inner Circle.
I know that so many of you are already members, but if not...
...The Real Moms' Inner Circle is where busy moms go for healthy ideas, motivation and tons of resources that make HEALTHY LIVING EASY for BUSY MOMS.
Are you right for the Real Moms' Inner Circle?
Do you want to learn more about healthy choices you can make for yourself & your family?
Are you trying to fit new healthy choices into a VERY BUSY LIFE?

If ANY of these are true, you should be a member mom NOW.
So, that brings me to some goals.
Being able to accept that including yoga in my busy mom life doesn't have to mean finding an hour and a half to spare every single time I take out my mat, I can absolutely dedicate myself to practice 3 times a week (which feels manageable and not overwhelming). I plan on keeping you all posted so keep me accountable, ok?
As long as I commit to having quality time and not worry about how long my practice is, I can do this. Are you with me?
What are your yoga goals? Come share them in our

We would love to have you join us there!
